If you and your partner will be together for Valentine’s Day and are in need of some last minute ideas, no worries! Here are some of my personal tips.
Cook Together If you forgot to book that reservation for your favorite restaurant, don’t stress. Instead, enjoy each other’s company by cooking together. Go all out and treat yourselves to a homemade three course meal. Just because it’s homemade doesn’t mean that it can’t be fancy! Some of my favorite dishes are salmon pinwheels with wild rice and asparagus, or steak with mashed potatoes and shaved Brussel sprouts. Can’t forget about dessert! Try making molten lava cakes from scratch, or cookie cups filled with ice cream. If you’re strapped on time, head over to Publix and pick up one of their Meal Kits.
Adventure Together Dinner is planned, but what to do for the date part of the night! Fortunately there is always something going on in Jacksonville, and Valentine’s Day is no exception. If you’re local, check out axe throwing at The Flip’n Axe, spirit tasting at Walton’s Distillery, or painting at The Accidental Artist.
Plan a Stay-Cation Too late to plan a Valentine’s Day getaway? Stay local and treat yourself to a fancy hotel room. Some hotels will offer Valentine’s Day couple package, so if you’re looking for a simple getaway, this might be your answer. If you’re in the Jacksonville area, check out the Hilton Garden Inn for their Valentine’s Day special, or head down to Wilmington and book a package at The Winds Resort.
Being a military spouse, I know the struggles of long distance relationships well. It’s hard, but Valentine’s Day makes it harder. The distance between you seems farther, and the time apart feels longer. It’s a struggle, but it’s not forever. So this Valentine’s Day, don’t focus on the number of days until you see your cutie again, but focus on that love you have for each other.
Subscription Boxes In the age of technology, there is a subscription box for everyone. Sign your favorite human up for a box filled with their favorite things. There are so many choices out there, it’s impossible to not find something they’ll love.
Surprise Them Life isn’t easy, and being far way from your other half makes it less so. Fortunately though, we live in the age of food delivery and online scheduling. Surprise your honey by sending them a heart shaped pizza from Casa Mia or booking a session at the Float Spa.
Valentine’s Day is about love, and showing that love to those who make your life better. Dinner and dates are fun, but they’re not always practical if kids are in the picture. Instead, take a look at these tips for Valentine’s Day Fun for the whole family.
Valentine’s Breakfast As we all know, the best way to start the day is with a tasty breakfast. Make it fun with a heart shaped pancake breakfast! Mimosas for the adults, hot chocolate with sprinkles for the kids. Decorate the table with confetti, streamers, and don’t forget to give everyone a valentine!
Go on an Adventure If mornings are just a little too hectic for breakfast, why not go for an outdoor adventure instead? There are so many fun activities here on the coast, that it’s easy to find one that the whole family will enjoy. Plan a picnic at the beach, go on a kayak or paddle board tour, or enjoy the nature trails up at Fort Macon.
Also known as Single’s Awareness Day, sometimes Feb 14th is a little lonely for those without a partner. Instead of getting annoyed by hallmark cards, pink hearts, and couples being annoyingly cute on Facebook, instead spend the day loving yourself! Today isn’t about missing what isn’t there, it’s about appreciating what you have and who you are. You’re awesome, and deserve a day to celebrate that!
Treat Yo Self As immortalized by Parks and Rec, use today to Treat Yo’ Self! Book a full body massage at Aloha Body Works, enjoy a treatment at Float Spa, just take the afternoon and enjoy a mani/pedi at Aloha Nails. There is no one more important than you. Spend the day loving yourself.
Go Out! Why stay in when you can go out? Get dressed up and celebrate yourself this Valentine’s Day with some local events, such as the Bitterness Ball at the Angry Ginger, Galentine’s Day at the Jacksonville Mall, or go on the Stupid Cupid Bar Crawl in Sneads Ferry.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Be safe and have fun!
